Who is really running America?
It’s a question that Republicans and even some Democrats want to know the answer to.
Some have compared First Lady Jill Biden to Edith Wilson, President Woodrow Wilson’s wife who became the de facto President after her husband’s stroke. Other reports show that President Biden so rarely meets with his cabinet that it appears as if administrative agencies might be running themselves.
Regardless, as Democrats continue to use heated and occasionally violent rhetoric claiming to be defending democracy, it appears as if the Presidency is currently run by a shadow government of unelected bureaucrats. Possibly even individuals without Congressional confirmation.
“This is not to say that First Lady Jill Biden, 73, is running the country today,” said Peter Lucas, a reporter for the Boston Herald. “It is to point out that she is running Joe Biden, 81, which may amount to the same thing.”
Others shift focus from the power of the First Lady and point to executive departments that have been largely left to their own devices. Initial reports emerged that President Biden has not held a Cabinet meeting in 9 months. But now, a new report revealed that even during those rare cabinet meetings, unelected and unknown White House staff members have prescreened questions and carefully choreographed interactions with the President.
The Biden campaign and other Democrats continue to insist that electing Trump is a threat to democracy but have lined up to defend the power of unelected officials.
President Biden has largely stood firm that he is mentally competent and will not resign from office.
The question persists, however. Is it truly defending democracy to support an unknown – and unelected – cadre of leadership running the country?
