Vice President Kamala Harris will be visiting Atlanta this evening. This will be the first time Harris has visited Georgia since becoming the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee – just nine days after President Biden withdrew his bid for reelection. Landing at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport shortly after 4:00 p.m., Harris will first meet with a group of reproductive rights advocates.
Harris will then head to her main event, slated with a list of notable political and celebrity guests, at the Georgia State University Convocation Center. The highlight of the evening will be a performance by Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who will take the stage at approximately 7:30 p.m. Other notable guests include both U.S. Senators from Georgia, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, as well as former Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan. Duncan, a Republican, endorsed Harris yesterday. He claimed “She’s the best vehicle toward preventing another stained Trump presidency.”
After Megan Thee Stallion’s slated performance was announced, many young supporters flooded social media looking for tickets to the rally. This event underscores a strategic move by Harris’ campaign to engage younger voters, a key demographic that was not very enthusiastic when it came to President Biden. Former Governor Roy Barnes, a Democrat, suggested Harris should focus less on older voters and more on energizing the younger demographic—a strategy Harris appears to be following.
