A Gwinnett County man was convicted this past Friday for the murders of three men in a 2020 shooting in Lawrenceville. Justice Lusk, 25, was sentenced to three life terms without the possibility of parole for the killings, which took place during a drug-related robbery.

Lusk was found guilty on multiple charges, including three counts of malice murder. The incident occurred in November 2020 when Lusk used a rideshare service to reach the home of Bob Caverly, 64, where he shot Caverly and two other men, Steven Andrew Finch, 33, and Eugene McClam, 45.

According to the Gwinnett District Attorney’s office, Lusk arrived at the Creek Water Court residence with the intention of stealing a bag containing illegal drugs. Shortly after his arrival, gunfire erupted, with witnesses later reporting that Lusk fled the scene carrying a backpack and a blanket.

In his escape attempt, Lusk tried to convince another rideshare driver to help him leave the area, but when the driver refused, Lusk fled into a wooded area. Police later discovered weapons and other discarded items, including a large quantity of marijuana and methamphetamine, stashed in a nearby crawlspace.

Gwinnett County police were able to track Lusk through his Uber records and arrested him just hours after the shootings. He was located in the passenger seat of a car near the crime scene.

During his trial, Lusk claimed self-defense, stating that his life had been in danger, but the jury dismissed his account. Lusk also faced convictions for multiple additional charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and firearm possession during the commission of a felony.
