Gwinnett County will receive $1.6 million in federal funding to implement safety improvements aimed at reducing roadway accidents and enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety. The funding is part of a larger $37 million investment secured through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), announced by U.S. Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. The funds will support a range of initiatives designed to make Georgia’s streets safer for all.

In Gwinnett County, the funds will be used to pilot speed management solutions and evaluate further actions to reduce accidents. This initiative will help address ongoing concerns about speeding and pedestrian safety in high-risk areas, and the results could influence broader safety measures in the future.

The funding, provided through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program at the Department of Transportation, is part of a nationwide effort to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries. The SS4A program aligns with the National Roadway Safety Strategy, which seeks to promote safer streets through targeted local investments.

Beyond Gwinnett, several other communities across Georgia will benefit from the funding. Notably, the Buckhead Community Improvement District will receive $10 million to partner with the City of Atlanta and the Georgia Department of Transportation to construct a pedestrian and bicycle bridge at the GA 400 interchange and Lenox Road. The project is set to improve safety at a location that has experienced more than 1,000 crashes over the past three years.

Senator Warnock hightlighted that these projects go beyond infrastructure; they are about saving lives and building safer communities. “I am glad to see Georgians continue to benefit from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law I was proud to champion,”  Senator Warnock said. “Safer streets are not just about protecting the vehicles we drive—they are about protecting lives and bolstering safety for all our neighbors. Senator Ossoff and I will continue to work to deliver even more investments to upgrade our state’s transportation infrastructure so Georgians can have safer communities and stronger connectivity.”

Senator Ossoff echoed these remarks, underscoring their commitment to bringing further improvements across the state. “Through the bipartisan infrastructure law, Senator Warnock and I are delivering upgrades to ensure pedestrian and commuter safety across Georgia,” Senator Ossoff said. “We will continue delivering infrastructure upgrades across Georgia through this historic bipartisan effort.”

With this funding, Gwinnett County can continue its efforts to enhance the safety and connectivity of its roadways, making travel safer for everyone, whether they are walking, biking, or driving.
