As July comes to a close, Metro Atlanta is seeing the end of one of the wettest month’s on record in almost 20 years. Of the past dozen days, 11 days have been filled with rainfall. On average, Atlanta sees roughly 4.75 inches of rain every July. This July, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has seen almost three times that amount – a whopping 12.70 inches has been recorded there.
Despite a record breaking amount of rain, some metro Counties are still experiencing droughts. The U.S. Drought Monitor, released on Thursday, July 25, indicates that parts of Fulton, Cobb, Forsyth, Cherokee, Bartow, and Paulding counties remain in a Level 2 ‘Severe’ Drought.
Is there more rain to come? According to the National Weather Service, while there is still a slight chance for showers and storms in the coming days, the wet weather seems to be coming to a close as July does. They have forecasted hot and sunny weather for the next week.
