GDOT Hosts Public Forums on Potential 1-285 Toll Lanes

The Georgia Department of Transportation wants to expand toll lanes on Interstate 285 and Georgia 400.

The proposed project aims to increase road capacity specifically from the Atlanta Road exit in Cobb to the Henderson Road exit in DeKalb by creating two barrier-separated lanes on either side of the Perimeter Highway.

A series of public forums (both in person and virtual) have been organized this project with the public. The next one is today at Cambell Middle School in Smyrna from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Additional dates and locations can be found on GDOT’s website. These sessions will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the plan, allow for community feedback, and offer a platform for dialogue with project stakeholders. For those who cannot attend any of the forums, GDOT is encouraging folks to email them at topendexpresslanes@dot.ga.gov, call them at (404) 978-7490, or fill out their comment form here.

The project principally focuses on the northern stretch of Interstate 285, as well as the regional Georgia 400 roadway. Cobb, Fulton, and DeKalb counties, notoriously known for heavy traffic, are the primary regions under consideration for this expansion.
