Duracell, a well-known battery maker, is moving its Global Research and Development Headquarters to Atlanta. This move will create 110 new jobs and bring a $56 million investment to the state. The new facility will be in Science Square, a tech-focused area near Georgia Tech’s Midtown campus.
Governor Brian Kemp announced the move, saying it shows how Georgia attracts top companies with strong schools, good transportation, and a business-friendly environment. Duracell has been in Georgia for decades, with a factory in LaGrange and a distribution center in Fairburn. These sites employ about 700 workers combined.
Duracell’s Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Liben Hailu, said this move will help the company grow and continue improving battery technology.
Local leaders, including Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and Metro Atlanta Chamber President Katie Kirkpatrick, praised Duracell’s choice. They highlighted Atlanta’s strong job market, top universities, and technology industry as reasons for the decision.
The move will also boost Georgia’s reputation as a leader in battery research and technology. The Georgia Department of Economic Development played a big role in bringing the project to Atlanta, working with Invest Atlanta, Select Fulton, and other partners.
This news comes as Georgia was named the No. 1 state for business for the 11th year in a row by Area Development magazine. The ranking is based on things like workforce quality, infrastructure, and business costs.
Duracell’s investment is another sign that Georgia is a top choice for businesses looking to grow and innovate. The state continues to attract major companies, bringing new jobs and opportunities to its residents.
