Cobb County Department of Transportation (DOT) is offering residents a chance to learn about the upcoming Mobility Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (MSPLOST) through a series of open house forums.
A MSPLOST is a one-penny sales tax dedicated to funding mobility improvements. This tax means that everyone who buys goods in Cobb County contributes to transit, including residents, businesses, commuters, and tourists. The tax is designed to raise funds for a variety of transportation improvements across Cobb County, including road upgrades, bridge repairs, and transit system expansions.
These sessions are designed to provide citizens with the opportunity to ask questions and better understand how the tax will fund transportation initiatives in their communities.
The open house forums will take place on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at multiple library locations throughout Cobb County. Residents can attend at Mountain View Regional Library in Marietta, North Cobb Regional Library in Kennesaw, Smyrna Public Library, or Stratton Library in Marietta.
Unlike traditional public meetings, these open houses will not feature formal presentations. Instead, citizens can drop in at any time during the two-hour window to engage directly with Cobb DOT staff, ask questions about specific projects, and share their thoughts on how MSPLOST funds should be used to improve local transportation infrastructure.
County officials are encouraging all residents to participate, stressing the importance of public input in shaping how the funds are allocated.
These open forums aim to provide clear and accessible information on the tax and ensure that the community is informed before any decisions are made. Residents are urged to attend, bring neighbors, and contribute to the dialogue surrounding the county’s future mobility needs.
