Former acting president of a prominent historically Black university in Florida, Lawrence Drake II, has been appointed as the new interim president of Albany State University (ASU). This appointment comes after an announcement by University System of Georgia Chancellor, Sonny Perdue.
Drake will be stepping into his new role on July 1, replacing the current ASU President, Marion Ross Fedrick. Fedrick is set to leave ASU for an executive role. She will be passing the baton to Drake, ensuring the seamless transition of leadership in the institution.
This leadership change was decided and announced by Sonny Perdue, the Chancellor of the University System of Georgia – the governing body of ASU. Perdue’s decision to place Drake at the helm of ASU shows the confidence he has in his leadership skills and experience.
Drake had formerly served as interim president at a historically Black university located in Florida.
