The pressing issue of escalating fentanyl use in Gwinnett County will be the focal point of a town hall happening this Saturday, July 27. The meeting will be led by Jasper Watkins, the Commissioner for District 3.

Starting with a showing of the Emmy Award-winning film Upfront Gwinnett: Fighting Fentanyl, this event will also have a question and answer portion following the screening. Intended to shed light on the growing menace of fentanyl consumption within Gwinnett County, Saturday’s event will include a panel of experts on the subject including Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gaston, View Point Health Program Manager Amanda Moliterno, Community advocate and mother of a fentanyl victim Tasha Edwards, and Gwinnett Police Drug Unit Major Chris Marion.

Fentanyl, which is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, has made headlines due to its deadly potency and increasing availability. It has been classified as a significant public health hazard, with fatal occurrences rising at an alarming rate, grabbing national attention.

Saturday’s event will be located at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center Auditorium and is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. and run until noon. More information about the event can be found here.
