A boil water advisory has been issued for sections of metro Atlanta following a failure at the Adamsville Pumping Station. The advisory affects areas in Southwest Atlanta and parts of South Fulton County, including Fairburn, Chattahoochee Hills, Palmetto, and Union City. A detailed map can be found here.
The Atlanta Department of Watershed Management issued the advisory early this morning, instructing residents to boil all tap water before use. Those experiencing water outages or reduced pressure are encouraged to boil water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or preparing baby food.
The advisory applies to public water sources, including fountains, in the impacted areas. Officials are particularly urging caution for infants, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
Tap water is considered safe for hand washing and showering with soap, but any water used in food preparation should be boiled and cooled beforehand.
There is currently no estimated time for the advisory to be lifted as officials continue to monitor the situation.
