One of the largest murals in the Atlanta metro area, titled Synchronicity, has been completed on Sugarloaf Parkway where it passes under Interstate 85. The mural, which covers nearly 11,000 square feet, is a collaborative project between the Sugarloaf Community Improvement District (CID) and the Hudgens Center for Art & Learning. The vibrant artwork, designed and executed by muralist Krista M. Jones, known as JONESY, aims to bring a sense of unity and connection to the local community.

Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson praised the new mural, calling it a “gift to the community” and a reminder that even in fast-paced environments, moments of harmony can still be found. The mural reflects Gwinnett’s identity as a “vibrantly connected community,” an idea JONESY incorporated into her design.

The mural’s concept is based on JONESY’s FORMATIONS series, which emphasizes unity in diversity through bold colors and nature-inspired patterns. She drew inspiration from Gwinnett County’s tagline of “Vibrantly Connected” to create a continuous flow of bright, floral-like designs, which stretch across the expansive underpass. The title Synchronicity refers to meaningful coincidences and connections, themes that also resonate with how the project itself came together.

Bringing the mural to life required over two years of planning and coordination, including efforts from the Gwinnett Creativity Fund, 12Stone Church, and Georgia Power, all of which contributed financially to the project. The completion also involved the replacement of underpass lighting, permits from the Georgia Department of Transportation, and extensive preparation of the wall, including pressure washing and priming.
